Here's what's in this ezine:
AS YOU LIKE IT
UAB Theatre presents Shakespeare’s AS YOU LIKE IT at 7:30 p.m. March 1 and March 4-7, and at 2 p.m. March 2 and 8,
in the Alys Stephens Center’s Odess Theatre (1200 10th Avenue South).
AS YOU LIKE IT is a pastoral comedy about love in all its guises, performed with humorous and clever wordplay.
Duke Frederick has usurped the throne from his brother, the rightful Duke Senior, who is exiled in the Forest of Arden.
His daughter, Rosalind, remains at court by request of Celia, Frederick’s daughter. Orlando is also ill-treated, by a brother, Oliver.
He breaks from him and risks his life in battle with Frederick’s champion wrestler at court.
Winning the match and Rosalind’s heart, Orlando angers Frederick, who banishes Rosalind.
Celia and Rosalind run away to the forest; Rosalind disguises herself as a boy. Orlando litters the forest with love poems to Rosalind.
She, in disguises, tries to test his love...
Tickets are $12; $6 for UAB/BACHE students; $10 for UAB employees and senior citizens. Call 205-975-2787.
You may remember that Theatre UAB enjoyed a visit from world-famous playwright and director Moisés Kaufman as part of our production
of THE LARAMIE PROJECT. But something else came out of that visit: Kaufman was so impressed by
our student Luke Harlan, director of that production, that he offered him a job as Assistant Director on the La Jolla Playhouse
of Kaufmans's new play 33 VARIATIONS. So Luke is leaving us this week to start work on that play March 1. We'll certainly miss him here,
but we're delighted and proud he's been hired for this extraordinarily coverted job.....
